POPCOM hopes that these KATROPA advocates will embody their learnings to effectively make decisions about their family’s well-being.

The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM)-I conducted a one-day orientation on the Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa Pamilya (KATROPA) to barangay officials and other male beneficiaries of Barangay Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union on December 3, 2019.

During the orientation, the participants were introduced to topics such as Basic Sex and Gender, Responsible Parenthood, Family Planning, and Healthy Lifestyle. A discussion on Violence Against Women (VAW) was also held in line with the celebration of the Philippine Commission on Women’s 2019 18-day Campaign to End VAW. Speakers from POPCOM-I were Mr. Franco Jubilo, Administrative Officer V, Mr. Reynaldo Ancheta, Administrative Officer III, and Mr. Roy Gerson Torres, Project Evaluation Officer I.

Various Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on Family Planning (FP) methods were also distributed as well as some FP commodities such as condoms for interested users.

KATROPA is one of the initiatives of POPCOM in mobilizing the men as partners of women in women empowerment, responsible parenting, and gender equality.
